Class Field For Fillies Classic

4 February 2004

The Group 2 Cambridge Stud Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (2000m) at the Waikato Racing Club on Saturday has attracted a classy field of fillies including top contenders for the title of 2003-04 New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year.

Out to regain the lead in the prestigious series is the Graeme Rogerson and Stephen Autridge trained filly, Taatletail (Faltaat x Defensive Lady) who is currently second on the Filly of the Year points table one point shy of the lead with 24 points behind Kainui Belle (Kashani x Lady Ukiah) who has 25 points.

Since her win in the Gr.1 New Zealand One Thousand Guineas, Taatletail has placed second in the Bayer Classic and was unplaced on Boxing Day in the Eight Carat Classic. The Gr.2 Cambridge Stud Sir Tristram Fillies Classic is her opportunity to recapture the lead in the Series as Kainui Belle is not competing in Saturday's race.

Another smart filly in the Series is the Colin Jillings & Richard Yuill trained Filante Etoile (Soviet Star x Georgiana). Filante Etoile raced home for second in the Gr.1 ING Life New Zealand Oaks at her last start behind Wharite Princess (His Royal Highness x Regal Visit). Although she does not have enough points to win the Series, her past performance has shown she has the potential to be very competitive in Saturday's race.

Also chasing the Gr.2 win are Justine Coup (Entrepreneur x Sirt), Montreal Gold (Gold Brose x Lady Ballina), Native Song (Mellifont x Enhanced), Kind Return (Zabeel x Kindness), Danette (Danske x Amynette), Madam Shinko (Shinko King x Madame Mac), Anne Carina (Danske x Lidahya), Haylee Baylee (Oregon x Mac's Gold), Mohawk (Volksraad x My Chameleon), Boulevardofdreams (Daggers Drawn x Faustina), Highflying (Entrepreneur x Crystal Brook), Ashkala (Ashkalani x Impulsive), Glenview Lass (Magic of Sydney x Devil's Lair), Saveke (Centaine x Tramarurea), Champagne Heights (Centaine x Fairy Heights), Pride of the Class (Volksraad x Grosvenor's Pride), Depuessence (deputy Governor x The Essence).

The points allocated for Saturday's Group 2 race will be
1st 8 points
2nd 4 points
3rd 2 points

The final race in the Series will be the Group 2 Championship Stakes at the Auckland Racing Club on Saturday 28 February.
