Winning Continues For Kiwis In Hong Kong

Yesterday's racing in Hong Kong saw victory for three New Zealand bred runners and placing's for others as kiwi horses continue to make their mark on the Hong Kong Racing circuit.

The winning began as early as race one the HK$500,000 Tak Ku Ling Handicap (Class 5,1400m), with the David Hayes trained Gorgeous Years (Defensive Play x Lady Bay) crossing the line to win ahead of Energetic Prince (Pursuit of Love x Song of Years) and Powerful (Belong to Me x Sallanches).

Gorgeous Years was purchased by Aquanita Racing Pty Ltd for $32,500 at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2000 Select Colts Yearling Sale. He was sold through the draft of Rich Hill Thoroughbreds.

Pentire colt Good Heart (La Chatigne) also scored a win at Sha Tin yesterday, taking out the HK$570,000 South Wall Handicap (Class 4, 1400m). Good Heart won the race from Indian Fire Power (Keltrice x Grey Parade) with Medit King (Bluebird x Awayil) coming home in third.

Trained by Laurie Fownes, Good Heart is also a graduate of New Zealand Bloodstocks National Yearling Sales Series, purchased at the 2001 Select Colts Sale for $30,000 by Michael Stedman Bloodstock. He was sold through the draft of Poplar Lodge.

The final race of the evening also proved successful for the kiwis, with Sean Woods trained Silverbird (Pompeii Court x A Little Sneek) taking home the HK$700,000 Lung Kong Handicap (Class 3, 1600m) ahead of Strategic Select (Scenic x Sonata Lass) and another kiwi runner, My Favourite (Danasinga x Aer Lingus) in third position.

My Favourite was sold through the draft of Matamata's Wedgewood Stud at the 1999 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Colts Sale. He was purchased by Kentucky Downs Bloodstock for $28,000.

Also taking home a placing at Sha Tin were Winning Parade (Housebuster x Umiko) and On The Tee (Tuscany Flyer x Arctic Queen).

Winning Parade ran second behind Brocco gelding Brilliant Attorney (Our Call) in the HK$570,000 Nga Tsin Wai Handicap (Class 4, 1200m).

On The Tee ran home in third place behind winner Fabulous (Vettori x Lots of Class) and second placed Just Too Good (Marju x Nafzira) in the HK$570,000 Nam Kok Handicap (Class 4, 1800m).

On The Tee was purchased by Mr S.J & Mrs D.M Jeffcoat at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2000 Festival Select Yearling Sale for $26,000. He was sold through the draft of Westbury Farm.
