Fantastic Field For Fillies Classic

The Waikato Racing Club hosts a great line-up of racing this Saturday, a card which includes the second to last leg of the prestigious 2002-03 New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series.

The $100,000, Group 2 Cambridge Stud Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (2000m) has drawn an exciting field including top contenders for the Filly of the Year title, Bramble Rose (Shinko King x Images), Volksini (Volksraad x Indochine), Lafleur (Zabeel x Desert Lily) & Gypsy Babe (Blues Traveller x Console). All four fillies have enough points on the table so far to be able to take the title if they perform well in the final two races of the Series, Bramble Rose with 16.5 points, Volksini with 10.5 points, Lafleur with 8 points and Gypsy Babe with 6 points.

After her win in the Drake International Fashion's In The Field New Zealand Oaks at Wellington last start, trainer Mark Todd indicated that Bramble Rose may miss the final two races of the series in favour of some well deserved paddock rest. However, the filly has obviously recovered well from her win and will no doubt add to the excitement in Saturday's race.

Other fillies that may cause an upset to the top contenders chances of the title are the likes of Vanessatheundressa (Carnegie x Voguessa) who ran an impressive second last Saturday at Te Rapa and the Lisa Latta trained Lady Annaliese (Groom Dancer x Titania) who has displayed consistent form throughout her racing career and ran a commendable third behind Bramble Rose and The Jewel in the New Zealand Oaks, giving her 3.5 points on the Filly of the Year points table.
