$14,000 Karaka weanling purchase Windsor (NZ) (Alamosa) scored his third win in a row and first at black-type level with a strong performance in Saturday’s $50,000 Listed Speight’s Timaru Stakes (1400m) at Riccarton.

Ridden by Courtney Barnes, the five-year-old speared to the lead from the starting gate and never relinquished that position, kicking strongly in the straight and winning by a long neck.

Windsor has now had 23 starts for six wins, three placings and $75,150 in stakes – more than five times his purchase price at the 2015 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale.

“That was a massive effort,” trainer Terri Rae said. “He really did all the hard work out in front as we had the blinkers on and it fired him up.

“He was very brave to fight the way he did, he put his all into the race.

“I think he can have some time off before we work out what to do with him next.”
