$130,000 Premier Sale purchase Global Exchange (Dundeel) stepped up to three-year-old stakes company with an explosive victory in Saturday’s $200,000 Group 2 Heritage Finance Autumn Classic (1800m) at Caulfield.

The winner of two of his previous four starts, Global Exchange faced a big step up in class on Saturday and handled it with ease.

Ridden by Ben Melham, he made a big run from well back in the field and hit the lead 200 metres from home. He raced clear in the closing stages of the race, winning by two and a quarter lengths.

“We always thought he was a Derby-type horse,” co-trainer Ciaron Maher said. “He raced here last preparation over a mile and it just showed he wasn’t quite mature enough, so we put him away and he put the writing on the wall when he won last start.

“We still thought he was a little bit wayward, so we put the blinkers on and he really showed his talent today. He’s a real progressive horse and I think he’s got a really bright future heading into the Sydney autumn carnival.”

Global Exchange has now had five starts for three wins, a placing and A$152,050 in prize-money for owners Mr S C Khaw, China Horse Club Racing Pty Ltd, Musk Creek Farm P/L, Mr G Pollio and Mr P S Zeccola.

Global Exchange completed a big-race double on Saturday for vendors Little Avondale Stud and the sire Dundeel (NZ) (High Chaparral), a former New Zealand Horse of the Year. Earlier in the afternoon, the two-year-old Yourdeel (NZ) (Dundeel) won the Group 3 Waikato Stud Slipper (1200m) at Matamata.
