Select Sale graduate Five To Midnight (NZ) (Domesday) powered home from last for a commanding victory in Saturday's $50,000 Listed Ricoh Feilding Gold Cup (2100m) at Awapuni.

Ridden by Johnathan Parkes for local trainer Lisa Latta, the well-performed stayer shouldered a 60-kilogram topweight against a talented field.

That handicap did nothing to stop the six-year-old, who swept past his rivals in the straight and scored by three-quarters of a length from fellow Karaka graduate Ringo (NZ) (Fastnet Rock).

“He’s furnished into a much stronger horse this time in,” Latta said.

“I thought he might need the run today, but he was lovely and settled in the birdcage, which is normally when he goes his best races. It was a good effort to carry 60 kilograms on this sort of track.

Bought for $165,000 at the 2014 Select Sale at Karaka, Five To Midnight has now won eight races and $506,490 in prizemoney for his owners Kamada Racing. He has earned more than triple his purchase price.

The Feilding Gold Cup was Five To Midnight’s third black-type win, having also won the Listed Hawke’s Bay Cup (2200m) in April of 2017 and the Group 3 Waikato Cup (2400m) last December.

Since then he has placed in the Group 1 Auckland Cup (3200m), Group 2 Avondale Cup (2400m), Group 2 Awapuni Gold Cup (2000m) and Group 3 City of Auckland Cup (2400m).

Out of the winning Fastnet Rock mare Fastnet Lady, Five To Midnight was bred by The Oaks Stud.
