Brighthill Farm’s well-bred mare Firostefani (Stratum) (Lot 415) is among the top lots of the Karaka May Sale with Haunui Farm purchasing the broodmare for $130,000.

Firostefani is a half-sister to Champion 2YO in New Zealand and multiple Group One-winner Anabandana (Anabaa), as well as Australian stakes-winner Gybe (Fastnet Rock). She has been served by the sire of international Group One winners, and Cambridge Stud resident, Tavistock.

Mark Chitty of Haunui Farm competed against several bidders, but played the last card.

“She is a really nice type of mare that’s gone to Tavistock,” he said. “She’s having a filly going forward and it’s a great filly family.

“She’s by Stratum and reminded me a lot of a couple of Stratum mares we have at home, and they’re throwing nice foals.

“I think the market today has been surprisingly strong. The nice mares can make nice money and you’ve just got to upgrade.”

Brighthill Farm have had a successful two days of selling and have sold 21 lots for an aggregate spend of $527,500. Their highest-priced lot at the Sale came when active buyer Andrew Williams Bloodstock purchased their Pride of Dubai colt (Lot 146) for $140,000 on Day 1.
