Superstar miler Beauty Generation (NZ) (Road To Rock), bought for just $60,000 at the 2014 Select Sale at Karaka, won his third Group 1 of the Hong Kong season in Sunday’s HK$18 million Champions Mile (1600m) at Sha Tin.

The five-year-old gelding had already risen to the highest echelon of Hong Kong racing with his impressive victories in the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile (1600m) in December and the Group 1 Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup (1400m) two months later.

On Sunday he delivered another outstanding performance, leading throughout the race and scoring by a length in the fast time of 1:34.31.

“Obviously the horses on the outside were in a bit of a rush to get across, but luckily we were able to kick up underneath them and hold our spot,” rider Zac Purton said. “He’s just so honest, he goes out and runs the same race every time. When he gets the circumstances to suit him, you get to see how good he is.”

Beauty Generation was bred by Nearco Stud Ltd and offered by Highden Park at the 2014 Select Sale, where Hermes Syndications bought him for $60,000. He was Group 1-placed in Australia under his previous name Montaigne, but it has been in Hong Kong that he has really made his name.

Trained by John Moore for owner Patrick Kwok, Beauty Generation has now had 22 starts for nine wins, seven placings and more than HK$40 million in prizemoney – the equivalent of NZ$7.2 million, which is 120 times his purchase price at Karaka.
