$3,000 Weanling Purchase So Far Sokool (NZ) Wins Bendigo Guineas

7 April 2018

With the 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka May Sale just around the corner, $3,000 weanling graduate So Far Sokool (NZ) (Showcasing) gave the Sale a timely boost with a dominant performance in Saturday’s A$150,000 Listed Mitchelton Winery Bendigo Guineas (1400m).

Trained by Archie Alexander and ridden by Nikita Beriman, the filly powered away from her opposition in the straight for a commanding four-length win.

“She relaxed beautifully today,” Beriman said. “I had the option of going in or out at the top of the straight and I wanted to give her as much room as possible. Her turn of foot was explosive and she put them away easily.”

So Far Sokool was bred by Haunui Farm, who offered her at the 2015 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale. She was bought by Mr GJ Healey for $3,000.

She began her career in New Zealand, where she had three starts last season for a win and two placings including a second in the Listed Great Northern Foal Stakes (1400m).

Now racing in Australia in the colours of new part-owners OTI Racing, So Far Sokool has further enhanced her career record to 12 starts for three wins, five placings and A$169,013 in stakes – almost 60 times her purchase price.

The catalogue for the 2018 May Sale, sporting a new name this year, is available to be viewed online with printed catalogues arriving in mailboxes later this month. The Sale will be held on May 7 and 8 at Karaka, with selling beginning at 10am each day.
