$5000 South Island Sale Purchase Claims Riverton Cup

1 April 2018

The Gordonian (NZ) (Remind), who cost just $5000 at the South Island Sale in 2010, took his career prize-money earnings past $200,000 with victory in Saturday’s $60,000 Listed Carriers Arms Hotel Riverton Cup (2147m).

Ridden by Krishna Mudhoo for trainer Jo-Ann Gordon, The Gordonian trailed the leader before taking over at the top of the straight. He shook free of brave rival Taniwha (NZ) (Gallant Guru) and drew away in the last 100 metres to win by two lengths.

Now nine years old, The Gordonian has had 80 starts for 11 wins, nine seconds and 10 thirds. He has earned $212,825 for owners K V Anderson, Ms J H Condon, Mrs V M Gordon, Ms S Hinga, Mrs J M and Miss S M Holland, N G A Minty, N M Sword and B J Townley.

Bred by Ms D Clark and M G Gordon, The Gordonian was originally offered at the 2010 Festival Sale at Karaka, where he didn’t meet his $10,000 reserve.

He went through the South Island Sale later that year, selling to B and S Gordon for $5000.

The 2018 South Island Sale will be held at Canterbury Agricultural Park in Christchurch on Friday the 20th of April.
