After placing in the Listed Dunedin Guineas earlier in the month, Global Thinking (So You Think) added a Listed win to her successful South Island sojourn in Saturday’s $50,000 ILT Ascot Park Hotel Southland Guineas (1600m) in Invercargill.

The Shaune Ritchie-trained filly, who cost $40,000 at the 2016 Premier Sale, was ridden by Kylie Williams and produced an impressive come-from-behind performance. After dropping back to the rear of the field, she swooped around the outside to challenge for the lead at the top of the home straight.

Global Thinking asserted her superiority in the closing stages, racing away to win by two and a quarter lengths.

She is raced by J Botoulas, J Cuthbertson, P J Keep, C Konstantopoulos, KRD Racing Pty Ltd, S K McGregor, L Mete, P Palmer, N Twyford and R Williams. She has now had 11 starts for three wins, two placings and $82,500 in stakes – more than double her purchase price. But Saturday’s victory lifted her value well beyond that.

“She’s cemented her broodmare career now,” Ritchie told NZ Racing Desk.
