Dean Hawthorne, who has been a prominent buyer over the four-day Book 1 Sale, has struck again with Lot 667. The colt by Tavistock was knocked down to his final bid of $700,000.

The Cambridge Stud-prepared colt is out of the winning O’Reilly mare Tricia’o (NZ) and a grandson of the prolific stakes producing mare Tricia Ann.

“We thought he was the best Tavistock in the sale,” Hawthorne said. “I bought him for a syndicate in Melbourne and he could be a stallion prospect.

“There’s no trainer for him confirmed yet. We’ll put it out there and see what happens.”

“All Tavistock’s take time, but we would like to see him do something in the autumn – he’s definitely strong enough.”

Hawthorne has now secured nine yearlings for $3.87 million - six of those by Tavistock. He also acquired an Iffraaj colt with Lindsay Park Racing in the opening session for $140,000.
