Group 1-winning Select Sale graduate Music Magnate (NZ) (Written Tycoon) added another black-type win to his CV in Saturday’s $150,000 Listed Christmas Classic (1200m) at Randwick.

The Bjorn Baker-trained runner has had a number of injury setbacks since his Doomben 10,000 triumph in the winter of 2016, but he showed his class with a dominant performance under 61 kilograms.

Ridden by Blake Shinn, Music Magnate raced in second place before taking control in the straight and scoring by three-quarters of a length.

"He's a top-class horse,” Baker said. “He's overcome a number of hurdles, and with the sales coming up I'm hoping to buy a few more of these ones.”

Music Magnate has now had 20 starts for nine wins, five placings and A$1.16 million in prizemoney – more than 25 times his $45,000 purchase price.

He was bred by Gerry Harvey’s NZ Thoroughbred Holdings Ltd and was offered at Karaka by Harvey’s Westbury Stud.

Music Magnate is raced by Bjorn Baker Racing, Written Tycoon Racing, Mr D R Frampton, Cobbitty Lodge Stud and Stables, Mr D R S Mcevoy, Mr C J Milton, Mr W J Williams, Mr G A Quinn, Mr T M Sullivan, Mr S J Billingsley and Mr C Tognolini.
