Karaka graduate Tulip became the first stakes winner for her sire Pierro when she scored impressively in the A$175,000 Group 3 Chandon S Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill.

The $400,000 Premier Sale purchase is trained in Victoria by David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig. The filly is held in high regard and has made a very big impression in her short career to date, prompting her trainers to send her to Sydney on a Group 1 mission – either next Saturday’s A$3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m), or the A$1 million Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) two weeks later.

Tulip took a big step towards those targets with an emphatic Magic Night Stakes win. Rider Kerrin McEvoy had her positioned off the pace before making a bold move at the turn. She asserted her superiority down the straight to win by a comfortable length and a quarter.

“Tulip was very impressive today,” Ben Hayes said. “She just sat midfield and she was three-wide no cover and she finished the race off great.

“Congratulations to the Coolmore boys and Pierro getting his first stakes winner.”

Bred by Orpendale in New South Wales, Tulip went through the 2016 Premier Sale in Curraghmore’s draft. She sold for $400,000 to the joint bid of BBA Ireland and Lindsay Park Racing.

Carrying the world-renowned navy blue colours of Coolmore, who own her in partnership with Cobra (Mgr: TV Magnier), MJ Kirwan, JW Hillier and GP Heffernan, Tulip has now had four starts for two wins and a second and has earned A$238,375 in prize-money.
