Pins filly Residential (NZ) failed to meet her reserve when she went through the ring at Karaka two years ago, but on Saturday she became a Listed winner with victory in the $50,000 Living Corporation Dunedin Guineas (1500m).

Bred by Waikato Stud, Residential is out of the stakes-winning mare Metropolitan (NZ) (Elusive City). Her reserve was set at $60,000 when Waikato Stud offered her in the 2015 Premier Sale, but she went unsold.

Now, carrying the colours of her breeder, Residential is making a name for herself on the racetrack. Saturday’s black-type victory was the John and Karen Parsons-trained runner’s third of her career and her first at stakes level.

Ridden by apprentice jockey Gosen Jogoo, Residential trailed the pace before sprinting impressively in the straight. At the finish she edged out her stablemate Starvoia (Starcraft) by a nose.

Residential has now had nine starts for three wins and a placing, earning prizemoney of $58,500 for her owners Mark Ritchie, Jason Wardle, Michael Piaggi, Henry and Ron Williamson, Leslie and Ann Seaton, John and David Nixon and Waikato Stud Ltd.

Waikato Stud also offered a half-sibling at Karaka 2017, with an O’Reilly colt selling to Cambridge’s Ohukia Lodge for $120,000 in the Premier session.
