High-class stayer Jacksstar (NZ) (Zed) took his career to new heights with a win in Sunday’s $100,000 Group 3 Hotel Coachman Manawatu Cup (2300m) at Awapuni, and a half-brother to the five-year-old will go through the ring at Karaka 2017.

Jacksstar had already won five races before Sunday including the Listed New Zealand St Leger (2500m), but Sunday’s defeat of a high-quality field at his home track of Awapuni was a new career highlight.

Ridden by Alysha Collett for trainer Gary Vile, Jacksstar made a bold move forward to sit outside the leader with 1000 metres to go before taking control around the turn. After a tight battle down the straight, he defeated Balham (NZ) (Don Eduardo) by a head.

Jacksstar has now had 27 starts for six wins, seven placings and $163,835 in prize-money.

He is the second stakes-winner out of the Pentire mare Star Guest (NZ), the first being Anniesstar (NZ) (Zed) who won five races including the Listed Feilding Gold Cup (2100m).

Little Avondale Stud will offer a half-sibling to the pair in the 2017 Premier Sale at Karaka. The colt is by Per Incanto out of Star Guest and will go through the ring as Lot 426.
