High-class mare Coldplay (NZ) (Savabeel) picked up the second Group 3 win of her career when she won Saturday’s $70,000 Eagle Technology Stakes (1600m) at Ellerslie, and she has a full-sister catalogued for the 2017 Premier Sale at Karaka.

Bred by Gary Wallace, who also part-owns the mare in partnership with Waikato Stud’s Garry Chittick, Coldplay sprinted strongly down the Ellerslie straight to reel in Ronchi (NZ) (Stravinsky) and win by a short neck.

It was the four-year-old Coldplay’s fourth win from 11 starts and her second in a row. It was also her second black-type win, having won the Group 3 Eulogy Stakes (1600m) at Awapuni last December.

“She’s a mare who’s really matured,” co-trainer Andrew Forsman said. “She was a touch weak as a three-year-old, but now she’s the real deal.”

Coldplay is by Savabeel out of the O’Reilly mare Forty Two Below (NZ), a full-sister to the Group One performer The Big Chill (NZ).

Forty Two Below is the dam of three named foals, all winners. Coldplay’s full-brother Positive Carry (NZ) has shown promise and won in Australia this season.

Waikato Stud will offer another full-sibling, a filly, as Lot 170 at the 2017 Premier Sale.
