Kuro (NZ) added to his impressive winning tally in the Listed Atistocrat Brain Crowley Stakes on Saturday.

Carrying the colours of Champion Thoroughbreds, Kuro joined the stable of Joe Pride when John O’Shea moved to Godolphin earlier this year and is unbeaten in four starts for the new stable. Pride has a big opinion of the son of Denman but hasn’t committed to any plans for the spring yet.

“He is an exciting colt and he still has a lot of improvement in him which is the most exciting bit,” commented Pride. “We aren’t sure if we will go to Melbourne yet with him, we will make a decision halfway through this week, but either way I think he will measure up to the top-grade.”

Ridden by inform rider Blake Shinn, Kuro raced in fourth position entering the straight before the son of Denman unleashed an electric turn of foot at the 200m to put the race beyond doubt in a matter of strides, winning decisively by two-lengths. Kuro stopped the clock at an impressive 1:09.69 on a Dead 5 surface.

“It was a lightning win again yesterday and he just keeps improving. He is really exciting,” said Pride.

Saturday’s win was Kuro’s fifth win from just seven starts with earnings of $209,050 for his owners Champion Thoroughbreds, Tab Rewards, Nearco Stud Ltd, Mrs H M Horton, Mr D Yates, Mr D W Willis, Mr A J Gordon, Mr B S Audet, Sedgewyn Syndicate, Birdworld Syndicate, Mr D H Long, Mrs S Denny, Ms C J Bailey & Mr S Thatcher.

Bred by Nearco Stud Ltd, Kuro is out of stakes placegetter Distinctive Lass (Orientate), whose second dam is triple Group 1 winner Special (Habituate). This is the family of triple Group 1 winning sprinter Bomber Bill (Air de France).

Jason Abrahams of Champion Thoroughbreds purchased Kuro for NZ$170,000 from the 2013 Karaka Premier Sale from Gordon Cunningham’s Curraghmore Stud.
